Description:The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time position of Research Scientist II in the NYS Office of Mental Health Office of Performance Measurement and Evaluation on the evaluation of the New York/New York III (NYNYIII) Housing Agreement. NYNYIII is an initiative to create supported housing units in New York City for individuals with mental illness, substance abuse disorders or HIV/AIDS. Under the supervision of the Project Lead, the incumbent will participate in all aspects of developing, planning, and conducting the evaluation. Duties:Duties include: • Establish procedures, data bases, spreadsheets and other computer applications as necessary to support data collection and project management • Performing quantitative and qualitative data analysis. • Write up of findings for internal and external communications/ publication. • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with housing providers and governmental entities responsible for the program. Responsibilities: The duties of the Research Scientist II will include, but are not limited to, the following: • Assist in the development of evaluation designs, the selection of appropriate data analysis methodologies, and project management. • Establish procedures, project plans, data bases, spreadsheets and other computer applications as necessary to support project conduct and management • Assist in developing and maintaining appropriate IRB approvals for studies as required. • Performing appropriate quantitative and qualitative data analysis as specified by the evaluation work plan. • Prepare written and graphical summaries of findings and project activities for internal and external communications/ publication • Write up of findings for internal and external communications/ publication, including scientific publications, and public web pages. • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with housing providers and governmental entities responsible for the program.
Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional research experience in an appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in an appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a Doctorate in an appropriate field. Appropriate fields include Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, Biostatistics, Economics or a related social science field. Knowledge of statistics and strong written and verbal communication skills are required. • Strong analytic and programming skills, including experience with SAS and SQL for quantitative statistical analysis and familiarity with multilevel regression modeling. • Experience working with large datasets and relational databases in a data warehouse environment • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products including Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint • Solid organizational and communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of professional staff • Fluency in the English language • The ability to work independently Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have a MS degree and experience in both public health and mental health care systems and analytic experience with a large variety of populations, diseases, and programs areas. Extensive experience working with Medicaid claim, encounter and recipient data is strongly preferred. Strong presentation skills and the ability work with a wide variety of professional staff are necessary. Knowledge of SAS and SQL, and experience with manipulating extremely large datasets and relational databases in a data warehouse environment is necessary. Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Hyperion is also preferred.
