|Description:||The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified candidate to work 0.6 full-time equivalent (FTE), and serve as an Assistant Research Scientist in the Global Mental Health Program (GMHP). GMHP is an interdisciplinary program that aims to be a world leader in global mental health by pioneering initiatives that promote mental health and reduce the burden of mental illness worldwide. |
To this end, the GMHP is committed to education, advocacy and both clinical and research capacity-building in under-resourced communities around the world.
|Duties:||The incumbent would participate in, and assist in the development of mental health research, education and advocacy initiatives spearheaded by GMHP. Specifically, in the first phase of his/her appointment, the Assistant Research Scientist would provide scientific and logistical support to help coordinate international field trials (internet- and clinic-based) that are being conducted in partnership with the World Health Organization. |
As part of this project, the incumbent will help with subject recruitment for the trials (by developing a strategic plan to establish, develop and maintain partnerships with international organizations and mental health practitioners working globally), data monitoring, survey development, contributing to study design and data analysis. The incumbent may also participate in presentation of findings (via verbal formats, written manuscripts, web-updates etc.).
The incumbent will also aid in securing funding for implementation of the field trials and other GMHP initiatives. Some education/teaching duties may also be required of the Assistant Research Scientist. In later phases, the incumbent will be required to secure funding and work under the supervision of GMHP faculty, to conduct post-doctoral research on an identified topic(s) of interest related to global mental health.
|Qualifications:||PhD level education (in basic research or public health) or equivalent experience in mental health required. |
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and an analytic background, are a must. Familiarity with basic and clinical research techniques, database management, statistical analysis and presentation of data are highly desirable.
Strong publication record. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products including Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and Qualtrics survey tool. Strong organizational, program management and coordination skills and the ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of international professional staff. The ability to work independently. Fluency in the English language.
