| Description: | This position is for a post-doctoral level researcher in a neuroscience laboratory investigating potential pathogenic mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness, specifically disorders of impulsivity such as gambling and addiction.
The work focuses on how abnormalities in expression of serotonin receptors may lead to impulsivity. Mouse models are used to address these questions. |
| Duties: | Responsibilities consist of performing experiments leading to the investigation of the role of serotonin receptors in impulsivity.
Specific responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
1) maintenance of transgenic mouse lines required for experiments (organization of the rodent colony, genotyping and breeding rodents for behavioral experiments, collecting tissue samples for experimental analysis);
2) generating behavioral cohorts and carrying out behavioral experiments;
3) developing operant tasks;
4) performing immunohistochemical analysis of tissue (in situ hybridization, autoradiography;
5) performing stereotactic surgery (including viral injections) in rodents;
6) data analysis;
7) manuscript writing and publication; and
8) attending translational research meetings focusing on the topic of impulsivity.
All data obtained must be recorded in detail, including a record of animal husbandry and stocks or other reagents generated. The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in neuroscience, and high-quality publications.
|
| Qualifications: | Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, physics, or neuroscience-related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
